SO JANUARY'S PRETTY MUCH OVER BECAUSE WHAT IS LIFE LIFE IS SCHOOL.
So I'll just mention the really big things and make this shorter than usual~!
But uh, before I get started, I'd just like to mention that masochists who like stupidly long posts can click on my Yearly Review tag to see entries for previous years.
Important stuff that happened over last year:
-POKEMON BLACK AND WHITE OH MAN
-FIRST ANIME CONVENTION~! ANIME DETOUR 2011~!! 8D
-Planned on going on a travel study to Tokyo, but then an earthquake and a tsunami happened. OTL
-Government managed to catch Bin Laden just in time to distract me from writing my paper about Vocaloids during finals week, the night before it was due, no less. (I mean, I know it was for the best, but the timing was kind of... =n=a)
-Spent summer working on a fan video with friends that is going at an extemely slow pace.
-Went two weeks without internet because our previous providers decided to disappear off the face of the planet.
-A friend I graduated with got married to a rich, handsome, smooth-talking New Yorker. (...I know it's hard to tell from how I worded that, but they are seriously the most adorables together and he's a good man. XD;;)
-Tim, our dog, passed away. Kylie came to fill his boots.
-Fall Semester! 8D
-I made the stupid decision to make a Tumblr during finals. WHY DO ALL MY FINALS TURN OUT LIKE THIS??
Spring semester classes were Japanese, Japanese Culture, Comtemporary China, Film Music, and Intercultural Communication. To be honest, it was a pretty laid-back semester until finals happened, at which point it became "ALL OF THE PAPERS DUE AT ONCE." And then I ended up doing my first all-nighter ever to finish a paper about Vocaloid. Oh, and then I had final tests that day too and I was pretty much a zombie. I mean, I knew the material, so that wasn't a problem, but as soon as I was done I went back to my dorm and just like, collasped on the bed, pretty much (and woke up just in time for supper, strangely). The only other thing I remember about it is that after I woke up I was like, "SHIT BRO I BE FREE. BRB FINISHIN' MADOKA NOW." 8D
Was awesome, but it seems like you only get talked to if you're wearing cosplay. 8|
Also, I learned first hand that the Hetalia fandom is scary business. But I also learned that the Pokemon fandom continues to be all of the awesome business, so it probably evens out somewhere~ Oh, and the DRRR fandom is pretty amazing too, even though I didn't really talk with any of them.
I don't really have anything else to say about the summer. It was... uh... summer-y?
Fall semester classes were more Japanese, Advanced Intercultural Communication, Intro to International Relations, Intro to Rhetoric, and Intro to Asia. Not gonna lie, Rhetoric was probably my favorite of these. (I am definitely not biased by the fact I got to write papers about Gurren Lagann and Hetalia. Nope.) Even though I enjoyed Rhetoric the most, I think I miss Adv. Intercultural Comm. more just because it was a tiny class of like twelve people and they were all awesome and I learned all kinds of things about cultures I'd never thought of before, like disabled culture and aging culture. I do legitimately feel like I learned a lot of important stuff there, stuff that even regular people should know. Why isn't this a required class for everyone? 8|
Fandom-wise, I guess the most important series/games/anime/whatevs for me were Pokemon (as usual), Madoka, Persona 4, Gurren Lagann, Vocaloid, and Cardfight!! Vanguard (though Vanguard kind of just like... latched itself on at the end of the year). I thought about including Hetalia, but the more I think about it, the most I realize my experience with Hetalia panels at Detour really turned me off from the APH fandom. On the other hand, I've been having a kind of... revival of my love for Ouran High School Host Club recently, so...
Oh hey, this actually turned out to be really short. /o/
Anyway, this year's resolutions!
-Obligatory resolution to lose weight, especially since I only have to lose like, 10-15 pounds at this point
-OBTAIN A COPY OF OVERCOMING SHYNESS (Er, that is, be more outgoing~!)
-Speak to lots of native speakers during the Tokyo travel study and get to be all kinds of fluent (That's how it works, right? Right?)
-FULFILL LIFELONG DREAM OF GOING TO POKEMON CENTER TOKYO
-COSPLAY DAMMIT, WHY CAN'T I MAKE THIS HAPPEN
-Foil the Mayan's evil "End of the World" plot
Okay, back to our normally scheduled posts~! 8D
Hope the 11 months left this year are awesome for everyone!
